Morgan aims to make significant mark in 2013

Despite the lack of corporate support, Jamaica's most decorated senior discus thrower Jason Morgan, is still motivated to achieve great results for himself and his country. Morgan currently has the second best throw for the year 2013 and will attempt to regain the number one spot, a position he held for two weeks, when he competes at the Jamaica International Invitational on Saturday May 4th.

Morgan is not a stranger to international competitions as he has competed at the highest level (World Championships and Olympics) on multiple occasions and hopes to give his fans and supporters a treat."My main aim is to keep throwing well, execute and perform well for my home crowd," Morgan said.

The seven time National Champion, promises that good things and farther throws are in store as the season progresses. The former Calabar student is not only aiming to achieve the A standard qualifier, which is only a few centimeters away, but working towards creating history by becoming the first Jamaican to medal at the senior level in discus.

Morgan is the first Jamaican to compete at the World Championship and Olympics in the discus event and with his background and accomplishments he is definitely on track to medal at the highest level.

Penn Relays Saturday 2013

Jamaica high school jumpers were the highlight of field event action on the final day of the 2013 staging of the Penn Relays. Jamaica took the top five positions in the high school boys long jump with Sadiki Eddie of Calabar taking that event with a jump of 7.28 ahead of Nicolaus Phynn of JC (7.28m), Jullanie Walker of Calabar (7.14m), Adrian Riley also of Calabar (7.11m) and Gavin Gibson of (JC 7.10).

O'Brien Waysome of JC (14.85m) and Christian Rodgers of Manchester (14.45m) were fourth and fifth respectively.  Christoff Bryan of Wolmer's boys outclassed the field in high jump clearing 2.15m the high school section of that event. Penn Relays Review Friday 2013

Jamaica once again showed progress in the field events with three victories on the day. Former Vere Tech jumper Shanieka Thomas, who now competes for San Diego State, was the first of several specular performances on the day when she took the college women championship section of the triple jump with a mark of 13.61m. UWI's Kimberly Williamson was second in the college women high jump clearing 1.84m. Raymond Brown of GC Foster, though not at his best, was able to produce 18.55m which was good enough for fourth in his section.

Calabar's Fredrick Dacres displayed an impressive performance to take the high school boys discus throw with a world class distance of 68.73m. This performance was less than a meter outside of the Penn Relays record of 69.55m set in 2011 by former Calabar athlete Travis Smikle. Dacres's teammate Basil Bingham was second with 59.69m.

Former St Hughs high school thrower Devene Brown, now competing for Central Michigan, took the college section of the discus throw with 53.97m while former Edwin Allen thrower Daniel Thomas, now competing for Kent State, was second with 51.98m. UWI's Travis Smikle who is nursing an injury was thrid in his section with a throw of 58.26m while Chadrick DaCosta produced a personal best of 19.23 to take silver in the high school boys shot put.
