Penn Relays Review Friday 2013

Jamaica once again showed progress in the field events with three victories on the day. Former Vere Tech jumper Shanieka Thomas, who now competes for San Diego State, was the first of several specular performances on the day when she took the college women championship section of the triple jump with a mark of 13.61m. UWI's Kimberly Williamson was second in the college women high jump clearing 1.84m. Raymond Brown of GC Foster, though not at his best, was able to produce 18.55m which was good enough for fourth in his section.

Calabar's Fredrick Dacres displayed an impressive performance to take the high school boys discus throw with a world class distance of 68.73m. This performance was less than a meter outside of the Penn Relays record of 69.55m set in 2011 by former Calabar athlete Travis Smikle. Dacres's teammate Basil Bingham was second with 59.69m.

Former St Hughs high school thrower Devene Brown, now competing for Central Michigan, took the college section of the discus throw with 53.97m while former Edwin Allen thrower Daniel Thomas, now competing for Kent State, was second with 51.98m. UWI's Travis Smikle who is nursing an injury was thrid in his section with a throw of 58.26m while Chadrick DaCosta produced a personal best of 19.23 to take silver in the high school boys shot put.
