Jamaica Dominates Throws

Jamaica dominates the throws on the first day of field event action at The Penn Relays. Gleneve Grange of Holmwood Technical took the high school section of the discus throw with a new Penn Relays and National Junior record of 54.29m achieved on her forth attempt to defeat fellow Jamaican and favorite TaraSue Barnett of Edwin Allen who was second with 50.02m. The other Jamaicans who competed also did well with the last year's Cartifa games Under 17 Champion Paul-Ann Gayle of Edwin Allen fourth with 45.78m, last years Carifta silver medalist Venique Harris of St Andrew High seventh with 41.12m and current under 17 Carifta games champion Shanice Love of Excelsior eighth with 40.92.

Last year's high school discus champion and former record holder in that event took the college women shot put with a throw of 15.61m competing for Kent State University. Devene Brown, formerly of St Hughs high school now at Central Michigan was 10th with a throw of 14.00m.
